Our Story

MayanFit was born from a deeply personal journey.
After Shae was diagnosed with Lyme disease and medically separated from the US Navy because of it, years of conventional treatment and Western medicine left her desperate and searching for answers. Determined to find another path, she and her husband, Eric, discovered functional health and traveled to a specialized hospital in Mexico, where an intensive treatment program became a turning point in her health, freeing her of the Lyme that had taken her life captive.
Afterward, Shae worked with a Functional Health Practitioner who used advanced lab testing to uncover the deeper imbalances affecting her body and create a personalized plan to help restore her health. She started to get her spark back – started dancing in the kitchen, had more energy, and was finally freed from the years of bloat she had experienced.
The experience changed her life—and ultimately changed ours. Inspired by her own transformation, Shae became a Functional Health Practitioner so she could help others who feel frustrated, unheard, or stuck without answers. Shae then asked Eric to leave the military so they could build something that would change lives. Together, we created MayanFit with a simple mission: to help people uncover what may be driving their symptoms, take control of their health, and ultimately get their lives back.
For us, this isn't just a business. It's personal.
Eric Mayan
Co-Founder, Certified Nutrition Coach, Performance Enhancement Specialist
Eric has spent his life pushing the limits of performance, discipline, and resilience.
Growing up as an athlete, Eric developed an early passion for health, fitness, and competition. Before entering the military, he spent 12 years in the automotive industry, ultimately serving as a General Sales Manager for Toyota, where he developed his skills in leadership, team building, and business.
Looking for a new challenge and an opportunity to serve, Eric joined the United States Navy, becoming a Surface Rescue Swimmer before earning his place in Naval Special Warfare as a Special Warfare Combatant-Craft Crewman (SWCC). He spent 10 years serving in the Special Operations community, where physical performance, mental toughness, leadership, and the ability to perform under pressure became a way of life.
Toward the end of his military career, Eric discovered a new challenge: Triathlon. What began as another way to push himself quickly became a passion. He went on to complete a full IRONMAN, compete in numerous triathlons, and qualify to represent Team USA at the World Championships.
Today, Eric brings decades of experience in athletics, leadership, high performance, and overcoming challenges to MayanFit. His mission is to help others realize that their current circumstances don't have to define what they'e capable of becoming.
Shae Mayan
Co-Founder, FDN-P
Shae Mayan is a U.S. Navy veteran, Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner, and founder of MayanFit—but she never planned on working in functional health.
After years of battling Lyme disease, Shae’s health declined to the point that she was medically separated from the military. She spent years searching for answers through conventional medicine, managing symptom after symptom without ever feeling like anyone was asking the most important question: Why is this happening?
At one of the lowest points in her life, Shae believes God led her to Sanoviv Medical Institute in Mexico, where she met a functional practitioner who completely changed the way she viewed health and healing.
For the first time, someone looked at her as a whole person instead of a collection of symptoms.
And it changed her life.
The healing Shae experienced gave her a new purpose: to become the person she desperately needed when she was sick.
She became a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner and founded MayanFit to help people stop accepting “everything looks normal” when they know they don’t feel normal.
Shae believes Western medicine is incredible at saving lives, but when it comes to chronic health issues, simply managing symptoms isn’t always enough. She wants to ask deeper questions, look at the whole body, and help people take ownership of their health.
What almost took Shae’s life ultimately became her calling. Shae built MayanFit alongside her husband and best friend, Eric, to that together, they could change lives.
Her mission now is simple: use the life God gave her back to change as many other lives as possible.

As a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P), I help clients understand the “why” behind their current state of health rather than simply chasing individual symptoms.

Sedessa Colletti
Functional Health Advisor
Sedessa’s passion for functional health began through her own personal journey and has continued to grow over the past five years. Her curiosity about looking beyond symptoms and understanding the underlying factors that influence health has led her to explore functional medicine, holistic wellness, and different approaches to health throughout her travels, including experiences in South America.
Through her own experiences and the stories and testimonials she encountered along the way, Sedessa developed a deeper appreciation for the connection between nutrition, lifestyle, movement, and overall well-being. She believes that understanding the individual as a whole is an important part of creating meaningful, lasting change, and through her passion and experience, she hopes to guide others toward that same experience — helping them take back control of their health, feel like themselves again, and ultimately get their life back.

Functional Advisor
I've always had a passion for helping find healing through the functional route. I believe everyone deserves to feel heard, supported, and empowered to make informed decisions about their health.
As a former collegiate tennis player, fitness and performance have always been an important part of my life. But my own experience with functional health has taught me that feeling your best goes far beyond staying active or eating well. Making changes based on what I've learned has changed my whole life, and being part of a life-changing organization is what makes being part of MayanFit so meaningful to me.
Off the clock, you'll find me at the nearest concert, spending time with family and friends, or on the pickleball court!
